Of the main embank­ments of St. Peters­burg, the Admi­ral­ty Embank­ment is the short­est, its length is only 414 meters, and there are only 8 hous­es on it.

The Admi­ral­ty Embank­ment is locat­ed in the very heart of the North­ern cap­i­tal, runs along the left bank of the Bol­shaya Neva Riv­er, starts from the inter­sec­tion of Dvortsovy Proezd with Dvortso­vaya Embank­ment and Dvortsovy Bridge, in the west it runs into the Eng­lish Embank­ment, and the Admi­ral­ty Embank­ment ends at Sen­ate Square with the Bronze Horse­man.

The most icon­ic and remark­able sights are near­by. It offers a beau­ti­ful view of the Neva Riv­er, the St. Peters­burg bridges, St. Isaac’s Cathe­dral, the Uni­ver­si­ty Embank­ment with its sphin­x­es, the Spit of Vasilievsky Island, as well as the very core of the city — the Peter and Paul Fortress.

The Admi­ral­ty Embank­ment is one of the lat­est, youngest, embank­ments, which appeared in the city in the 1870s, while all the cer­e­mo­ni­al embank­ments appeared in St. Peters­burg in the 18th cen­tu­ry.

Begin­ning with the found­ing of St. Peters­burg in 1703 and the con­struc­tion of the Admi­ral­ty in 1704, this sec­tion of the bank of the Bol­shaya Neva was used as an out­let to the riv­er for the Admi­ral­ty ship­yard. These were the “riv­er gates” through which mate­ri­als and raw mate­ri­als were deliv­ered, and ships built here were removed from the slip­ways.
