Description:
Is an ancient road that has been integral to connecting the east and west throughout history. It starts in Durres or Dyrrachium, Albania, and runs eastward through Elbasan, passing beautiful Lake Ohrid before eventually reaching Thessaloniki in Greece. From there it meanders on towards Istanbul, Turkey, passing through Bitola in Macedonia along the way. Tracing this route can be an incredible experience for any traveler who wants to explore an important part of history and have a unique adventure. The route was first constructed by the Romans as a trading route along which goods like spices, perfumes, and silk made their way from East to West (and vice-versa). Later on, it gained importance as a major military supply line when the Roman Empire expanded into modern day countries such as Serbia and Bulgaria. Nowadays you can still walk along parts of this ancient roadway which has remained mostly unchanged since Roman times – something that has made it even more fascinating for those seeking a slice of history.
