Col­ored rocks-cliffs of dif­fer­ent heights and shapes. A unique land­scape was formed as a result of geo­log­i­cal process­es that began many cen­turies ago. Over 24 mil­lion years, deposits of sand­stone and oth­er min­er­als, the move­ment of tec­ton­ic plates, rain and gusts of wind formed this “unearth­ly” topog­ra­phy. The rocky for­ma­tions resem­ble in their shape tow­ers, grot­toes, hills, full of bright col­ors of the rain­bow.

In order to pre­serve the beau­ti­ful col­ored moun­tains from pol­lu­tion and dam­age, peo­ple are pro­hib­it­ed from explor­ing the Danx­ia Hills on their own. For every­one who wants to see the bright rocks with their own eyes, spe­cial bus excur­sions are orga­nized. Dur­ing them, trans­port takes tourists to the four most pic­turesque points of Zhangye Danx­ia, ​​and trav­el­ers are giv­en the oppor­tu­ni­ty to ful­ly enjoy the beau­ti­ful scenery.
