Description:
Drawable road and railway bridge over the River Derwent. The construction of the first bridge on this site, which also bore the name “Bridgewater”, was authorized by the Lieutenant Governor of Van Diemen’s Land (as Tasmania was then called) George Arthur. It began in 1829 and was produced using prison labor.
