Truss draw­bridge. The old­est of Port­land’s four swing bridges; at the time of con­struc­tion, it was a two-span drop-down bridge with the longest swing spans in the world; and to this day — a bridge with the longest draw spans of the Rall sys­tem in the world. It has four lanes and also has a non-ded­i­­cat­ed tram line and a bicy­cle path. In 2012, it was includ­ed in the US Nation­al Reg­is­ter of His­toric Places. The bridge cost $1.6 mil­lion.

The Broad­way Bridge was designed by Ralph Mod­jes­ki, an engi­neer who built more than two dozen large bridges in the Unit­ed States. When the bridge opened on April 22, 1913, it was named after Broad­way Street, of which it became a con­tin­u­a­tion. Sev­enth Avenue, which approached the bridge from the oth­er side, now became the east­ern part of Broad­way.

The bridge is raised for the pas­sage of ships about 25 times a month.
