This is the first permanent bridge across the Neva in the city. The oldest. the first permanent drawbridge on the Neva in St. Petersburg. The bridge is the river-sea border. Above it the Bolshaya Neva flows, below the bridge the waterway begins.

In 1855, Emperor Nicholas I died. And the crossing began to be called the Nikolaevsky Bridge. In 1918, the crossing received a new name — the Lieutenant Schmidt Bridge. Peter Schmidt led the uprising on the cruiser “Ochakov” in Sevastopol in 1905, and was later executed. The bridge was reconstructed in the 30s. And during the last reconstruction, in 2007, a temporary backup bridge was built next to the old bridge. And in the same year, 2007, the bridge was returned to its historical name — Blagoveshchensky.

Now the bridge is 356 meters long and has eight lanes. No tram tracks. And during the navigation season, the average span takes just 55 seconds.
