Enormous catchment basins belonging to the ancient water supply system of Jerusalem. They could be called the King Solomon Pools, since King Solomon did not build them and had nothing to do with them. The name was given to them by Christian pilgrims in recent centuries. The complex consists of three basins. The upper basin with built walls has a rectangular shape. The other two basins were formed by blocking the wadi with dams and are trapezoidal in shape. The total capacity of all three basins is 280,000 cubic meters. The basins were filled from two conduits carrying water from springs located several dozen kilometers to the south. The water flowed by gravity, the conduits were inclined. In addition, water from nearby springs was also supplied to the basins. Two conduits (“upper” and “lower”) supplied water from the basins to Jerusalem. Another conduit went to Herodium.
