The burial is located on a hill next to the graves of his relatives who died earlier.
On February 6/18, 1837, after a funeral service in the southern aisle of the Assumption Cathedral, the poet’s body was buried near the altar wall. Four years later, a marble monument was erected on the grave, commissioned by Pushkin’s widow and guardianship by the St. Petersburg master of monumental works A. M. Permogorov.
The monument above the grave: at the top of a white marble obelisk tapering upwards is a four-pointed cross, below it is an image of a six-pointed star in a laurel wreath. The base of the obelisk is an arch also made of white marble with an image of two crossed mourning torches with a wreath at the top. Under the arch is an urn with a shroud, a symbol of mourning and sadness. The arch with the obelisk and urn is installed on a black granite pedestal, on the front edge of which a commemorative inscription is applied in gold. The stepped pedestal of red granite is surrounded by a black-painted figured steel fence.
