Description:
Famous for its high density of elephants and massive old baobab trees, Tarangire National Park is a little safari gem that attracts large concentrations of wildlife along the Tarangire River during the dry season.
Tarangire also has leopards, wild dogs, hyenas, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, buffalo and a range of antelope and smaller species such as honey badger and caracals. Arid country specialist antelope such as the fringe-eared oryx and gerenuk are also regularly spotted. A bird count in excess of 550 species keeps the birdwatchers happy.
Less frequently visited than the nearby but more renowned Serengeti and Ngorogoro, Tarangire is an excellent choice for a more private high season safari and for those arid habitat specialist species. Combine the 3 for more species and habitat diversity.
