The Khakass­ian cave is 49 m deep and has three tiers and a length of 820 m of pas­sages. Cen­­turies-old Khakass­ian shamans came to the spa­cious Tem­ple Grot­to to wor­ship and make sac­ri­fices sym­bol­iz­ing fer­til­i­ty and pro­cre­ation — to the ancient sta­lag­mite. It is not sur­pris­ing that local res­i­dents are near the under­ground labyrinths of the Black Dev­il Cave. Trav­el­ers are attract­ed here by mys­ti­cal sto­ries and rock paint­ings. The low­er tier, espe­cial­ly the Obval­ny Grot­to, is flood­ed after the spring melt­ing of snow and dur­ing heavy rains. Tourists bring Yarusa upstairs and tell the sto­ry of the Shaman Spir­it, who hides in the dun­geon. Now the Kashku­lak Cave is a tourist attrac­tion. But 2 thou­sand years ago, the first tier was used by local shamans as a rit­u­al hall. The walls of the Tem­ple Grot­to are still cov­ered with soot from numer­ous sac­ri­fices. The Kashku­lak cave appears in many leg­ends, and most often rather gloomy ones. Peo­ple dis­ap­pear in it, strange sounds are heard, and local res­i­dents claim that the spir­it of an evil shaman lives in the cave. By the way, shaman­ic rit­u­als are still held there today.
