The north­ern­most active vol­cano in Kam­chat­ka. The diam­e­ter of the base of the vol­cano is 45–50 km, the total area is at least 1300 km². It con­sists of the stra­to­vol­cano Old Shiv­eluch (con­tains andesites and basalts), an old depres­sion — a caldera with a diam­e­ter of 9 km and the active crater Young Shiv­eluch, which pro­duces emis­sions of hot lava and gas-ash clouds.
