Due to the impor­tance of both reser­voirs for the con­ser­va­tion of bio­di­ver­si­ty, experts not­ed the need to strength­en their pro­tec­tion. It is the main source of drink­ing water for Bukhara, the fifth largest city in Uzbek­istan, as well as for the near­by city of Kagan.
