Once an impor­tant mil­i­tary for­ti­fi­ca­tion and the loca­tion of the first set­tle­ment of Singidunum, it now serves as the cen­tral park of Bel­grade. Acces­si­ble from the end of the Knez Mihailo­va street, it offers a great refuge from the hus­tle and bus­tle of the city, espe­cial­ly in the after­noon. Kale­meg­dan park is divid­ed into the Upper and Low­er town, and con­tains fortress walls built in sev­er­al stages through­out his­to­ry, with sev­er­al cafAs, ten­nis and bas­ket­ball courts, muse­ums and an obser­va­to­ry. Be sure to take a stroll around the stat­ue of Pobed­nik (The Vic­tor), one of the sym­bols of Bel­grade, and enjoy the stun­ning views over the con­flu­ence of the Sava and Danube rivers.
