These days, Belarus is celebrating the anniversary of its liberation from the Nazi invaders. On June 22, 1941, at 4 o’clock in the morning, massive bombing of the Nazi invaders began across the Soviet Union. And the Belarusian border city of Brest took the first blows. Hitler’s powerful army planned to capture the Brest Fortress in just a few hours. However, the resistance of Soviet soldiers in the fortress continued until August 1941. The Soviet offensive Operation Bagration, which liberated Belarus from the Nazis, is considered the greatest offensive operation in history. The fateful and most fierce battles took place on the territory of the republic from June 23 to August 29, 1944.
