November
Saint Martin, Bishop of Tours, is commemorated on November 11th. This is one of the most revered saints among the French and Germans, who lived a long righteous life: he was a Roman soldier, but then became a monk, and later a bishop. The most famous plot for many religious paintings was an event from the life of St. Martin, when he, having met a frozen beggar, cut off a piece of his uniform cloak with a sword and gave it to the unfortunate one.
