The forests of the reserve are the last uncut taiga massif in the western part of the Middle Urals. Being a reference object of natural taiga ecosystems, the Basegi ridge is of significant scientific interest, because reference natural ecosystems give scientists a unique opportunity to study natural processes that are not distorted by human influence. The reserve covers the territory of the Basegi ridge, which is located meridionally, parallel to the main watershed ridge, and stretches from the valley of the river. Usva in the north to the river.
