Before the revolution, a huge military town was built in Achinsk — perhaps the largest complex of its kind in Russia, comparable only to the Karosta district in Latvian Liepaja. These are large blocks of attractive two-story brick-style houses, some of which are used for ordinary housing, while others still belong to the military school. There are no restrictions on the territory of the town, you can walk freely (if you find a road), but look under your feet — the roads are badly broken, and in some places there are pieces of concrete and reinforcement sticking out of the ground. The path to the town is not entirely obvious. It’s best to turn off Sverdlov Street in the area of the London Pub cafe, and you’ll figure out the rest.
