Description:
It has a height of 396 meters and is one of the main attractions of the city. The name of the mountain comes from its shape, similar to a piece of sugar. There is also a version that the name comes from the phrase “paunh-acuqua”, which in the language of the local Tupi tribe means “High Hill” or “Guardian of the Bay”. The shape of the mountain is formed by weathering of the igneous rocks that make up the mountain. In 1912, a cable car was built to the top of the mountain, and from the top there is a view of the city and the ocean.
