Soli­tude Palace is a Roco­co cas­tle and hunt­ing retreat com­mis­sioned by Charles Eugen, Duke of Würt­tem­berg. It was designed by Johann Friedrich Wey­hing and Philippe de La Guepierre and was built from 1764 to 1769.

The palace is locat­ed on an elon­gat­ed ridge between the cities of Leon­berg, Ger­lin­gen and Stuttgart in Baden-Würt­tem­berg. In the 20th cen­tu­ry, Soli­tude was aban­doned, the gar­dens fell into dis­re­pair and Nico­las Guibal’s ceil­ing fres­coes were large­ly destroyed by water dam­age. Dur­ing the war, the palace was used as a mil­i­tary hos­pi­tal.
