Archae­o­log­i­cal site. It is locat­ed on a steep cliff on the right bank of the Aragvi Riv­er, above the Geor­gian Mil­i­tary Road. The fortress served as pro­tec­tion against raids by moun­tain tribes. Cur­rent­ly, part of the citadel tow­er, the west­ern wall and indi­vid­ual ele­ments of oth­er for­ti­fi­ca­tions have been pre­served. The fortress was first men­tioned in 1156. It has been pre­served in a ruined state, and in 2010 it was severe­ly dam­aged due to a land­slide, and going inside is con­sid­ered dan­ger­ous.
