This is a trough-like deposit with an area of 16 km² with a max­i­mum depth of 320 meters in the cen­tral part of the trough. The aver­age thick­ness of the for­ma­tion is 26.5 meters, the max­i­mum is up to 120 meters. The Neryun­grin­sky open-pit mine is one of three coal min­ing enter­pris­es that are part of OJSC Yaku­tu­gol, which pro­duces coal in the Repub­lic of Sakha (Yaku­tia). The max­i­mum vol­ume of coal pro­duc­tion was achieved in 1989 — 14 mil­lion 881 thou­sand tons of coal. Coal con­sumers are Russ­ian met­al­lur­gists and pow­er engi­neers, Japan, South Korea, India, and Tai­wan.
