This mod­ern finan­cial dis­trict is locat­ed on the Avenue Castel­lana (for­mer­ly Avenue Gen­er­alis­si­mo Fran­co) and is sim­i­lar to the Parisian dis­trict of La Defense. The Picas­so Tow­er on the square of the same name, 157 m high, has become one of the sym­bols of mod­ern Madrid. The archi­tect of the sky­scraper is Minoru Yamasa­ki — the author of the destroyed build­ings of the World Trade Cen­ter in New York.
