Abuko National Park is a protected area located south of the settlement of the same name. It is a popular tourist attraction and the first wildlife reserve in the country. The area first gained protected area status in 1916 when the Lamin Creek, which flows through the reserve, was fenced off to contain and collect water. In connection with the stabilization of the stream, an increase in the number of wild animals and plants in the forest was noted.
