A vast semi-desert sand formation in Kherson Oblast, the largest moving dune massif in Europe covering about 1,600 km².
Description:
The Aleshkovsky (Oleshky) Sands formed naturally and were enlarged by human activities (trampling, overgrazing) along the right bank of the Dnipro River. Mobile dunes up to 5 m high alternate with pine shelterbelts planted to combat erosion and desertification. Since 2010, the area is protected as the Aleshkovsky Sands National Nature Park.
