Description:
Destroyed Christian temple VIII. Churches of the Ambara type constitute a special subgroup of the basilica type. From the outside it looks like an ordinary basilica, but the interior appears to be a single-nave church flanked by side rooms. The historian of Byzantine architecture Hans Buchwald applied the term “basilica with isolated side naves” to this kind of structure. During Turkish rule the temple was destroyed.
