The church is known as the Assump­tion Grot­to Church, due to the pop­u­lar­i­ty of the grot­to, com­plet­ed in 1881, which was built as a repli­ca of the Sanc­tu­ary of Our Lady of Lour­des in France. The church com­plex includes the grot­to, a 1929 church, a rec­to­ry, con­vent, and ceme­tery. The com­plex is list­ed on the Nation­al Reg­is­ter of His­toric Places.
