By order of Bagrat the Third, in the 10th c. the beginning of the construction of the cathedral, created in honor of the Blachernae icon of the Mother of God. The temple was decorated with unique frescoes, which were lost over time. After his death, Bagrat III was buried in the Bedia Cathedral.
