Description:
Built around 1679 this medieval fortress was a very strategic place. Used as an important military post by the Dutch it played an important role in the conflicts between the Dutch colonists and the British Invaders. Even in the later history of Cape Town, the fort has been of great significance. It has also been used as a prison.
It is now a military museum and an important venue for activities of the military in Cape Town. The exciting part of visiting this museum is the cannon ball firing that takes place periodically. The ceremonies are also quite interesting from the point of view of the tourist. History lovers will enjoy the place immensely. One of the most beautiful historic sites of Cape Town.
