Description:
Chogha Zanbil is the first Iranian site to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. The ancient city of Chogha-Zanbil was built around 1250 BC by the king Untash-Napirish in an ancient Elamite complex (today it is the Iranian province of Khuzestan). The complex was built in honor of the great God Isushinak.
The ensemble contains the surviving largest ziggurats of Mesopotamia. The first enclosure contains a piece of land around it, while the second enclosure, trapezoidal in shape, encloses a huge, almost empty area.
