An unofficial self-governing commune. It is a large community with a socialist economic structure, although the residents of Christiania themselves do not use the term “socialism”. The territory is not actually controlled by the Danish authorities, and the form of political organization of society is different from the state. The residents of Christiania proclaim their goal to be “to create a self-governing society in which each individual is responsible for the well-being of the entire community.
