Description:
The medieval Gothic church with a cemetery was built in the second half of the 14th century on a hill above the Geyser in the center of Karlovy Vary. In 1518, it was rebuilt in the Renaissance style, but at the beginning of the 18th century, several fires caused such damage to it that it was decided to demolish it and build a new temple in the city. The cornerstone of the future church was laid on April 27, 1733. The abbot’s church in the high baroque style was built in 1733 – 1736. designed by the famous Czech architect Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer.
