The medieval Goth­ic church with a ceme­tery was built in the sec­ond half of the 14th cen­tu­ry on a hill above the Geyser in the cen­ter of Karlovy Vary. In 1518, it was rebuilt in the Renais­sance style, but at the begin­ning of the 18th cen­tu­ry, sev­er­al fires caused such dam­age to it that it was decid­ed to demol­ish it and build a new tem­ple in the city. The cor­ner­stone of the future church was laid on April 27, 1733. The abbot’s church in the high baroque style was built in 1733 — 1736. designed by the famous Czech archi­tect Kil­ian Ignaz Dientzen­hofer.
