An authentic Ming–Qing scholar’s garden in central Dunedin, one of only three outside China.
Description:
A piece of serenity in the city. The Dunedin Chinese Garden is an example of a late Ming, early Ching Dynasty scholar’s garden. A perfect miniature of a traditional Chinese landscape painting, this Garden encapsulates the essence of nature. Recognized as a six-star Garden of International Significance, its purpose is to guide you on a journey towards a deeper appreciation of history, culture, heritage, and tradition.
Its origins come from a desire to celebrate the city’s Chinese heritage and its valuable sister city relationship with Shanghai. The Garden changes with the seasons and vistas and hidden corners appear unexpectedly so you see something different every time you visit.
