A complex of two dozen rock churches, but only eight of them are accessible to the public. The churches are carved into soft rock called tuff. Also on the territory of the museum is a multi-storey rocky convent (now closed to the public). Tourists are especially attracted by well-preserved colorful frescoes of the 11th-12th centuries.
