The city became a haven for hun­dreds of Ger­mans at the begin­ning of the 19th cen­tu­ry. The new towns­peo­ple brought their tra­di­tions and archi­tec­ture to Goy­gol, thanks to which we can still admire the local Luther­an church and a num­ber of oth­er clear­ly Euro­pean build­ings.
