Built at the Admiralty plant in Leningrad in 1956-1959. More than 500 enterprises and institutions of the USSR took part in its creation. Commissioned on December 3, 1959. Over the next 30 years, it provided navigation on the Northern Sea Route and served as a “nuclear university”, where experience in year-round Arctic navigation was gained, technologies were improved and personnel were trained for the nuclear fleet of our country. He navigated thousands of ships in the Arctic ice, and himself traveled 654,400 nautical miles, which is more than three times the distance from the Earth to the Moon. Decommissioned in 1989. On May 5, 2009, the nuclear icebreaker “Lenin” moored in the center of Murmansk at the sea terminal, quickly becoming the “calling card” of the Murmansk region and one of the most visited tourist sites in the Kola North. The modern Arctic Exhibition Center “Nuclear Icebreaker “Lenin” is a structural division of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise of the Nuclear Fleet (FSUE “Atomflot”) of the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom” (GC “Rosatom”).
