The church of the Fran­cis­can order, also called the church of monks, has a unique altar with a canopy, giv­ing the con­struc­tion an extreme­ly light, dynam­ic char­ac­ter. The church of the Fran­cis­can fri­ars was built between 1736–1755 in baroque style, accord­ing to plans of the Ital­ian archi­tect, G.B. Car­lone. Orig­i­nal­ly the Church of St. Demetrius stood here. The church’s door­ways and the Mater Dolorosa stat­ue, made in 1793,are works of Gio­van­ni Ada­mi. The Baroque altars and the pul­pit, the Roco­co style main altar, — all were made between 1735–1756. The stat­ues and the side altar­pieces are works of local mas­ters.
