A memo­r­i­al of Jacques Bal­mat, one of the two first per­sons to reach the peak of Mont Blanc, erect­ed in 1887 in cen­tral Cha­monix. It is the most famous moun­taineer­ing memo­r­i­al in the Alps, and it is pop­u­lar to take pho­tos of it with the moun­tain itself vis­i­ble in the back­ground. It took until 1986 until the sec­ond climber in the par­ty, Michel-Gabriel Pac­card got his own memo­r­i­al which is at the bank of Arve.
