Description:

The Kalalau Trail runs along the scenic Nāpali Coast State Wilderness Park on the island of Kauai, the oldest in the Hawaiian archipelago. Daredevil hikers will be rewarded with gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean, coastal cliffs, steep slopes of sleeping volcanoes, green valleys, and a white-sand coastline. But keep in mind that this route is not only beautiful but also dangerous. It starts from Kee Beach and leads to the Kalalau Valley. The way to both ends of the trail takes two days (35 km) and requires excellent physical preparation. Hikers have to literally trudge through the jungle, cross mountain rivers that turn into deadly raging torrents after the rains, and escape from constant rockfalls. And some hikers have been seriously injured or killed by being thrown off the narrow trail by waterfalls. But the greatest danger is posed by the beaches through which the trail passes. At first glance, they look very welcoming. But swimming and even a walk along the water can lead to irreparable consequences. The waves here are very high, the undercurrents are strong, and the coastline is rugged and carries many unpleasant surprises. According to statistics, more than 100 tourists have died on the beach sections of the trail. The most dangerous of them is Hanakapiai.
