The height of the pillar is about forty meters. At the top are two churches. The first, of the fifth century AD, was erected in a “dry” way from the material mined on the spot and roughly processed. Its apse is carved directly into the rock. The second, of the sixth century, was built of worked stone raised from the foot of the pillar.
