Active volcano.
Description:
Stratovolcano in the eastern part of the Kamchatka Peninsula. Belongs to the eastern volcanic belt.
Located on the territory of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve, 28 kilometers south of Lake Kronotsky. It consists of the Kikhpinycha volcano itself and the Yellow Hill, a dacite volcano with a height of 1532 meters.
Kikhpinych consists of two fused stratovolcanoes of different ages: the young Savich cone, formed about 1,400 years ago, and the older Western cone, about 4,800 years old.
The height of the cones is 1552 and 1500 meters, respectively, the diameter of the base is about 70–100 kilometers. It has a crater with a diameter of 75 meters and a depth of up to 30 meters.
The rocks are primarily basalts, and less commonly, basaltic andesites. The Geysernaya River flows from the western slope of the volcano, forming a 200-meter-deep canyon, from the eastern slope – the Shlakovy stream and several nameless streams.
To the southwest of Kikhpinych, along the Geysernaya stream, the famous Valley of Geysers begins – one of the largest geyser fields in the world and the only one in Eurasia. The Verkhniy geyser closest to the volcano is located just 1.5 kilometers from the western foot.
Height: 1552 meters, Type: Stratovolcanoes, Status: Radiocarbon
