Lake Koman (Albanian: Liqeni i Komanit) is an awe-inspiring reservoir situated in northern Albania, which sprawls across an area of 34 km2 (13 sq mi). Its width measures 400 m (0.25 mi). This spectacular lake is embraced by dense forests, vertical slopes, and deep gorges. Besides the Drin River, which is the main source of water for the reservoir, Lake Koman is also fed by two other rivers – Shala and Valbona.
The construction of this massive reservoir started in 1979 and was completed in 1988 near the village of Koman with a height of 115 m (377 ft). The most remarkable feature of this lake is the narrowest gorge, which is surrounded by vertical canyon walls. This gorge measures more than 50 m (0.031 mi) at its widest point.
The captivating beauty of Lake Koman and its surrounding areas has made it one of the prime tourist attractions in Albania. The crystal clear waters, beautiful forests and gorges, and wide variety of wildlife make it a paradise for nature lovers.
