The architectural object is located in the Republic, but previously it belonged to the Principality of Lithuania and Poland. Restoration work takes place here almost constantly these days, but it does not stop numerous tourists from admiring the beauty of the structure.

There are always heated debates among historians about the dates when its construction began, because the difference between the data is several hundred years. The most plausible version is considered to be that the structure was erected 600 years ago and its construction lasted 200 years.

Why did construction work take so long? The fact is that the area here is swampy. To prevent the walls and parts of the foundation from falling into the ground, it was necessary to expand the sand dune. At that time it was an extremely difficult task. The builders performed all the work manually using a single type of “equipment”: horse-drawn carts.

There are also versions that convicts took part in the construction, but the information voiced by local historians has not yet been documented. The history of the defensive complex, it must be said, is very gloomy. It is full of wars, murders, intrigues, betrayals. And yet the building attracts travelers and those who like to tickle their nerves like a magnet. The local ghost (everyone should take this into account in advance) is quite aggressive here.

The ghost of a pretty girl with a dog appears near the fortress walls and greatly frightens late tourists in the evenings. They literally run away because they know: those whom they saw in her arms usually do not live long and die from the same cause (fractures received in a strange fall).
