The salt lake is surrounded by volcanoes and hot springs. The “Djibouti Chimneys” are a series of limestone chimneys rising above the lake’s surface, reaching heights of up to 50 meters. Flamingos, pelicans, and other birds, including the Djibouti francolin, can be seen along the lake’s shores.
