Description:
Lake Louise is a natural wonder located in Banff National Park.
The lake lies at an altitude of 1646 meters. The waters of Lake Louise have an unusually clear emerald color, which appeared thanks to local rock that was dissolved by glaciers and brought from the mountains into the lake.
The lake was named after Princess Louise, the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria of England and wife of the Marquess John Campbell of Lorne, 9th Duke of Argyll, 4th Governor General of Canada (1878 to 1883).
Near Lake Louise there are a large number of small lakes, waterfalls and paths to them. There are a number of hotels, campsites and tourist centers in the lake area. The largest of the local hotels is the five-star Fairmont Chateau on the shores of Lake Louise.
