The sculpture itself is one of the tallest in the world: together with the pedestal, inside of which the museum itself is located, its height is 102 m (62 m without the pedestal), and from this height a view of the entire city opens up.

Inside the pedestal on which the statue is located, there are exhibition halls of the museum – a total of 3 floors. It is here that various celebrations dedicated to Victory Day are held annually.

Initially, it was planned that the height of the sculpture would be 80 m, but the Kiev Metropolitan opposed this decision, since in this situation, the Motherland would be higher than the bell tower of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. “We cannot allow the weapon to be higher than the cross,” he said, and the first secretary of the Communist Party of Ukraine Central Committee, Vladimir Vasilyevich Shcherbitsky, considered this fair. Moreover, this decision was also approved by the architects: maintaining balance in heights was necessary for the overall architectural appearance of the city.

There are 2 observation platforms on the statue, where excursions are regularly held. One is located at the “feet” of the “Motherland” at an altitude of 36 m, and the second is on the sword, at an altitude of 91, from where a view of the whole of Kyiv opens.
