The sculp­ture itself is one of the tallest in the world: togeth­er with the pedestal, inside of which the muse­um itself is locat­ed, its height is 102 m (62 m with­out the pedestal), and from this height a view of the entire city opens up.

Inside the pedestal on which the stat­ue is locat­ed, there are exhi­bi­tion halls of the muse­um — a total of 3 floors. It is here that var­i­ous cel­e­bra­tions ded­i­cat­ed to Vic­to­ry Day are held annu­al­ly.

Ini­tial­ly, it was planned that the height of the sculp­ture would be 80 m, but the Kiev Met­ro­pol­i­tan opposed this deci­sion, since in this sit­u­a­tion, the Moth­er­land would be high­er than the bell tow­er of the Kiev Pech­er­sk Lavra. “We can­not allow the weapon to be high­er than the cross,” he said, and the first sec­re­tary of the Com­mu­nist Par­ty of Ukraine Cen­tral Com­mit­tee, Vladimir Vasi­lye­vich Shcher­bit­sky, con­sid­ered this fair. More­over, this deci­sion was also approved by the archi­tects: main­tain­ing bal­ance in heights was nec­es­sary for the over­all archi­tec­tur­al appear­ance of the city.

There are 2 obser­va­tion plat­forms on the stat­ue, where excur­sions are reg­u­lar­ly held. One is locat­ed at the “feet” of the “Moth­er­land” at an alti­tude of 36 m, and the sec­ond is on the sword, at an alti­tude of 91, from where a view of the whole of Kyiv opens.
