Muryn-zhyrau — Tilegen Sengirbekuly (1859–1954) is an outstanding Kazakh poet-improviser, one of the last representatives of oral folk art — zhyrau (storyteller). Born on January 16, 1860 in the Mangystau region, Mangyshlak region. He was a student of Kashagan-zhyrau and Nurym-zhyrau, studied from them the epic “Forty Batyrs of Crimea”, a figure who transmitted the epic on paper to our time. The brightest representative of the Kazakh oral art of the twentieth century. Muryn Sengirbekuly is a great storyteller who, 5 centuries after Sypyr-zhyrau, brought the spiritual heritage of the Kazakh people — the epic “Forty Crimean Batyrs” to the present. Muryn’s father was a famous master jeweler. In his younger years, Muryn Zhyrau also studied jewelry. Since childhood, he knew folk poetry well, he knew many epic works by heart. Muryn distributed and promoted Kazakh heroic works in the land of Karakalpakstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. In 1941, after A. Khangeldin wrote down 37 excerpts from the epic “Forty Crimean Batyrs”, Muryn-zhyrau became known throughout the Republic. In 1942, the President of the Kazakh Branch of the Scientific Academy of the KSSR Kanysh Satpaev and the Director of History, Language and Literature of the Kazakh SSR Nygmet Sauranbaev sent a letter to the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR Nurtas Ondasynov with a request to invite a narrator, with the provision of special conditions for the latter. July 11, 1942 Muryn Sengirbekuly arrives in Alma-Ata. After a short rest in front of 60 listeners of the Philharmonic, zhyrau performs the epics “Orak-Mamai” and “Karasai-Kazi”. Among the listeners were representatives of the Kazakh intelligentsia, such as Sabit Mukanov, Kanysh Satpaev, Mukhtar Auezov, Abdilda Tazhibaev, Askar Tokmagambetov, Esmagambet Ismailov, Kazhym Zhumaliev, Nygmet Sauranbaev, Gabiden Mustafin, Akhmet Zhubanov, Gabit Musrepov, Alkey Margulan and others. , and wrote down epics Mariam Khakimzhanova. In 1947, to the funds of the Scientific Academy. I. Uyikbaev was given a complete autobiography and an epic about 4 batyrs. In the same year, Muryn-zhyrau was invited to the Republican People’s Creative House in Almaty. He stays in Almaty for several days with public performances. At the same time, his epics are being recorded. On April 20, 1948, the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR “Collection, classification and recording of the heritage of Muryn-zhyrau” was issued. The manuscript of the letters of the epic “Forty Batyrs of Crimea” is now in the manuscript department of the Scientific Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Muryn lived in the aforementioned house from 1906 until the end of his life. In the late 70s, Muryn’s relatives left the house and left for the Atyrau region. The great storyteller died on August 23, 1954 in Fort Shevchenko.
