Ngoro­goro is the world’s largest intact inac­tive vol­canic caldera, with a floor space of 260 km² of most­ly grass­lands and 2 small wood­land areas. Approx­i­mate­ly 25,000 ani­mals call the crater home, mak­ing for excel­lent game view­ing – espe­cial­ly near the few springs that pro­vide water.
This is the best place in Tan­za­nia to see black rhi­nos, and some of the bull ele­phants in the crater have very large tusks. Also, expect to see buf­fa­los, lions, hye­nas, zebras, hip­pos, and a vari­ety of ante­lope species.
