The bur­ial is locat­ed on a hill next to the graves of his rel­a­tives who died ear­li­er.
On Feb­ru­ary 6/18, 1837, after a funer­al ser­vice in the south­ern aisle of the Assump­tion Cathe­dral, the poet­’s body was buried near the altar wall. Four years lat­er, a mar­ble mon­u­ment was erect­ed on the grave, com­mis­sioned by Pushk­in’s wid­ow and guardian­ship by the St. Peters­burg mas­ter of mon­u­men­tal works A. M. Per­mogorov.
The mon­u­ment above the grave: at the top of a white mar­ble obelisk taper­ing upwards is a four-point­ed cross, below it is an image of a six-point­ed star in a lau­rel wreath. The base of the obelisk is an arch also made of white mar­ble with an image of two crossed mourn­ing torch­es with a wreath at the top. Under the arch is an urn with a shroud, a sym­bol of mourn­ing and sad­ness. The arch with the obelisk and urn is installed on a black gran­ite pedestal, on the front edge of which a com­mem­o­ra­tive inscrip­tion is applied in gold. The stepped pedestal of red gran­ite is sur­round­ed by a black-paint­ed fig­ured steel fence.
