A three-kilometer dune 150 meters high. It offers a beautiful view of the Ili River and the purple mountains. In dry weather, the dune makes melodic sounds, like an organ. According to one of the legends, a shaitan who roamed the world and plotted people intrigues turned into a dune. According to another version, Genghis Khan and his associates are buried in the sands. The dune “sings” when the soul of the khan, “exhausted from mental anguish, tells his descendants about his exploits.” It is noteworthy that the dune does not roam the plain, but stands still for millennia, despite the fluctuation of the sand and strong winds.
