Roswell, New Mex­i­co, has become syn­ony­mous with the search for aliens after a UFO sup­pos­ed­ly crashed there in 1947. A ranch work­er made head­lines when he claimed he found debris from a fly­ing saucer crash. The U.S. gov­ern­ment explained the inci­dent away as a crashed weath­er bal­loon, though some peo­ple did­n’t buy this expla­na­tion. Since 1996, thou­sands of peo­ple have descend­ed on Roswell for the city’s annu­al UFO Fes­ti­val, one of Amer­i­ca’s coolest fes­ti­vals.
